Dunstable Tennis Club Coaching Program
Coaching at DTC is open to both members and non-members. Term time coaching runs for 3 blocks of 12 weeks. Holiday training camps offer something different for the existing player or great opportunities for those starting and new to the club. - Friday is always tournament day.
Throughout the term time, coaching is split into Mini Tennis and U10 Squads, Club Development Squads, and Tournament Player Squads. In order to move out of a squad you will need to demonstrate the appropriate standard through improvements in technique, tactical awareness and attitude. We will take into account commitment, number of matches per year, results and overall fitness.
Details of each level of program.
MINI TENNIS and U10
DTC runs Red, Orange and Green Mini Tennis coaching for children age 5 upwards. At this stage, the children are learning the FUNdamentals of the game. Co-ordination, agility, reactions, balance and perception are key to helping the player develop their athletic potential. Basic tactics and FUNdamental techniques are taught within the sessions. The players have the opportunity to attend at least 2 sessions per week to learn their skills. - At the end of each term, all children receive a Tennis MOT report.
DEVELOPMENT 11-18 YEARS
Once out of Mini Tennis, the player can attend Club Development squads. This gives existing players a chance to sharpen their skills on a full size court with real balls. These squads also provide a solid start to the older beginner player. More complex challenges are given to the player with co-ordination, agility, reactions, balance and perception still forming the major part of the training outside of technical and tactical learning. The players have the opportunity to attend at least 2 sessions per week. - At the end of each term, all children receive a Tennis MOT report.
TOURNAMENT PERFORMANCE SQUADS
(Includes Mini Performance) 7-18 YEARS
The more committed player, who has the potential to achieve county standard, may be invited to attend club performance squads. Training is performance orientated and themes are developed in line with National Guidelines. Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental Training are delivered throughout the squads that increase in number and intensity.
Individual lessons are often required to aid the technical learning. Extra training throughout the holidays takes place at strategic times of the year to help participants on the programme peak at important times. We will set realistic and achievable goals each 6 months with a training program for our most committed players.

ADULT COACHING
Numerous sessions take place throughout the week to cater for all levels. Both doubles and singles are taught throughout. We offer Team Squad training to improve understanding of tactical awareness for matchplay for all our team players. If you would prefer a more personal program through one to one sessions with one of our qualified coaches, these are available.
