As an all-members club, Dunstable Tennis Club (DTC) is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) through the Bedfordshire County LTA and is Tennis Clubmark acredited.
Situated in the south of the county, the club draws its members from Dunstable and the surrounding towns of Luton and Houghton Regis as well as further afield in the 3 counties of Herts, Beds and Bucks. From its public hard court origins and foundation in 1966, the club has grown in strength and now boasts six first class courts, five floodlit, as well as two mini-tennis courts in the new Kidzone, plus a clubhouse with changing facilities and bar. With over 200 members of all playing abilities the club is active in the senior Beds and South Beds Leagues, Junior County Leagues and County and National Competitions. Much of the current success of the Club stems from the friendly atmosphere, partly generated by numerous off-court activities, which help to create a pleasant social side to the Club. The most important part of the Club ‘off-court’ is the support of the ‘bar’ which, along with the membership fees, represents the major source of revenue. The bar is a central feature of club life being open during licence hours on social play days for the sale of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages along with confectionery. The juniors also make good use of it during their sessions when it becomes a ‘tuck shop’!
Another popular activity is the annual knockout darts tournaments for the men’s and ladies’ singles and the open doubles which are spread out on Fridays during the autumn. Such is the popularity of the darts tournaments that DTC also run our own internal darts leagues on Fridays from January to March. For a number of years the Club has had a Golf Society which arranges one day out a year to different golf clubs around the area with a singles and team competitions. |
